About Ireland

Ireland is an island just slightly bigger than West Virginia. It is divided into two parts: the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland which is a province of the UK. The Republic of Ireland has a population of 4.6 million people. The Republic is divided into 26 counties, most of which have no gospel witness.

Ireland is a predominately Catholic nation. In  the most recent census it was reported that 85% were Catholic, 3% Church of Ireland (Anglican), 7.5% no religion, 1% Muslim, 4.5% other. It s a sad fact that most Irish will never hear a clear presentation of the gospel.

One of the other things Ireland is best known for is drinking. Pubs are the local gathering place in communities across Ireland. 80% of Irish drink regularly, most of which drink a lot. Binge drinking is becoming a serious problem. There’s about 7500 pubs in Ireland which is 1 pub for every 630 people. By contrast there are about 25 Fundamental Baptist works in Ireland. That’s about 1 for every 184,000!

Please pray for us and consider supporting our family in our endeavor to win Ireland to Christ.
